IBM On-boarding Requirements

The NextPlane UC Exchange service is architected so that federating through UC Exchange is secure and extremely simple. UC Exchange is a no-touch solution for the unified communication (UC) client and is stunningly simple for the UC servers. UC Exchange does not require ANY plug-ins or software components to be installed on the federated domains' UC platforms. It appears to each UC server or gateway as if it is federating with its own kind.

IBM Sametime UC Platforms

The Sametime administrator needs to make the following changes:

  • Publish an XMPP SRV record for their Sametime domain to point to the NextPlane UC Exchange FQDN.
  • Modify the Sametime Community on the Sametime Gateway to allow federation with the specific domain and to configure it to point to the NextPlane UC Exchange FQDN.

Step 1 is only required when federating with an XMPP based UC platform.

The publication of the XMPP SRV record for the IBM Sametime domain allows UC Exchange to receive XMPP traffic from the XMPP domain(s), which is addressed to the users on the IBM Sametime domain, and to translate and route it appropriately as SIP traffic to the Sametime Gateway (ST GW).

The modification of the Sametime Community on the Sametime Gateway enables UC Exchange to receive the SIP traffic from the IBM Sametime domain which is addressed to the users on federated domain, and to translate and route it appropriately to the federated domain.

XMPP-based UC Platforms

To federate XMPP-based platforms, such as Cisco WebEx Messenger, with IBM Sametime, the XMPP platform does not require any changes, except ensuring port 5269 is open on the perimeter network.

SIP-Based UC Platforms

To federate Microsoft Lync, OCS or LCS domains with IBM Sametime, the Microsoft administrator must modify the Allow List of the Lync, OCS or LCS Access Edge Server for the Sametime domain to point to the NextPlane UC Exchange FQDN

The administrator of the Microsoft domain also needs to ensure that port 5061 (TLS) or 5060 (TCP) is open on the perimeter network.
